It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the special mention obtained last July during the International Congress of the “European College of Sport Science (ECSS)”, as we have been pioneers for years in an important activity promoting health in the workplace.
“Thanks to the generous availability of Gemata in hosting graduating students, two experimental Master's theses in Preventive and Adapted Physical Activity Sciences were written,” explains Dr. and Co-Supervisor Ilenia Fracca.
On those occasions, the various postures of employees during working hours were observed, and information on lifestyle and musculoskeletal health status was collected through validated questionnaires. Meetings were organized with employees to provide dedicated training on general and specific health topics, with a special focus on ergonomics.
Two months later, ad hoc brochures were distributed to all employees to reinforce and review the concepts of the corporate training, and specific physical exercise protocols based on job roles were provided, giving employees a useful guide to follow in the gym available within the company.
This resulted in a significant workplace health promotion initiative for employees, positioning us among the pioneers of the most recent European and national trend toward sustainability and the promotion of health in general, including in the workplace.
“I therefore decided,” adds Dr. Fracca, “to submit our work, reworked in the form of an abstract, to the ECSS Scientific Committee in order to evaluate its relevance. The response was positive, to the point that I was offered the opportunity to present the project orally at the International Congress in Paris.
Poster of the 28th ECSS Annual Congress in Paris.
This was an extraordinary opportunity, considering that we are talking about one of the most important congresses in the world in this field, with more than 3,000 participants from leading universities and research centers not only in Europe, but also in Asia, America, Australia and Africa.
Thanks to this collaboration, we were ahead of the times, since it is likely that only in the future companies in the sector will adopt structured health promotion policies, whereas at the moment there are only emerging trends."
We are deeply proud that this recognition once again confirms that, as a company, we are moving in the right direction. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to emphasize once again the importance of physical activity, recalling the famous Latin proverb: “Mens sana in corpore sano”.
